Anyone going out to spend the night at a hotel is definitely looking forward to a nice experience given the resources spent to get a good hotel room and facilities. A good hotel might be relative to the client who has got a variety of needs and preferences and deserves the same especially after traveling a long distance.
Look out for the following, however, when deciding what hotel to stay in during your travels:
General hygiene conditions
If all other amenities are not up to standard a hotel should at least offer its guests clean, decent accommodation and general environment. You do not want to fall sick from food poisoning or other related stomach disorders. You also do not want to take a shower in a filthy bathroom or drink contaminated water.
Believe it or not, these are very possible scenarios in the least expected of places to keep out an eye or read reviews on the places you are going to stay. A dirty environment is very uncomfortable to hang around.
After confirming good accommodation the next obvious step would be to see the kind of food on offer. Choose a hotel that offers something you consider special for a meal; whether on business or leisure sleeping out at such an establishment is an opportunity to treat your taste buds to something they have been yearning for.
A good meal is always a good complementary to good accommodation.
If you are traveling for business or official assignment you will want amenities including a computer. WI-FI, printing, photocopying and related services; you basically need a business center so that you do not have to go out looking for the same. That would be a great inconvenience.
Location of the hotel
The location of the hotel should ideally be as close as possible to the areas that you intend to visit while in the area. If at the coast you might want to check in at a beach hotel; if you are attending a conference you will be best placed near the venue where you could even possibly walk to and from. As a guest new place, it is better to absorb the surroundings first before getting adventurous and delving into the unknown.
This is part and parcel of any industry today and in particular the hospitality industry. You want to feel appreciated and special as a guest. You can determine the kind of customer service offered even from a phone call to confirm a reservation or to make inquiries. You want staff that you can easily engage with on various issues and who can even guide you around the area.
Proximity to the airport or train/bus station
It is convenient and cheaper to stay near your point of departure if you are a visitor to an area. It makes it easy to get to the station or airport and reduces chances of missing a plane or train because of traffic which is a very common occurrence even in cases where the best precautions had been taken to avoid the same.
Take your time to check your needs as a guest and put his against the services offered by different hotels to come up with the best choice. Enjoy your stay.
